Getting Started
Set up your account and start learning.
- How do I create an account?
- Visit www.tutorlucid.com/sign-up and sign up with your email or Google account. You'll be guided through onboarding where you add your child's name and grade level. The entire process takes about 60 seconds.
- How do I add a student profile?
- After signing up, you'll be prompted to add your first student during onboarding. To add additional students (on the Family plan), go to the Parent Dashboard and click "Add Student." Each student gets their own profile with independent progress tracking.
- What grade levels does TutorLucid support?
- TutorLucid supports students in grades K-8. The AI tutor automatically adapts its language, difficulty, and teaching approach based on the grade level you specify during setup.
- Can I use TutorLucid on mobile?
- Yes! TutorLucid is a mobile-first web app that works on any device with a browser — phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. No app download required.

- How does the homework scanner work?
- Navigate to the Homework tab, take a photo of your worksheet or upload an image. The AI extracts each problem and creates a guided solving experience. Your child works through each problem step-by-step with the tutor's help. The scanner supports math, science, reading, and writing prompts.
- What is the daily practice quiz?
- Each day, TutorLucid generates 5 personalized questions based on your child's weakest skills. The questions use spaced repetition — they come back at optimal intervals for memory retention. Your child self-assesses each answer and sees their score at the end.
- How does the writing coach work?
- The writing coach helps students with three tasks: generating essay outlines from a topic, reviewing drafts with constructive feedback, and building CER (Claim-Evidence-Reasoning) paragraphs step by step. It guides writing improvement without rewriting for the student.
- What do XP, levels, and streaks mean?
- XP (experience points) are earned from tutoring sessions and practice. Every 50 XP advances your child one level. Streaks count consecutive days of activity. These gamification elements are tied to real learning milestones, keeping students motivated with tangible progress markers.
- How do achievements work?
- TutorLucid has 15+ achievements across categories: sessions completed, streak milestones, skill mastery, subject excellence, and special achievements (like Night Owl or Early Bird). Achievements unlock automatically and appear as toast notifications to celebrate progress.
Parent Dashboard & Insights

- What does the parent dashboard show?
- The parent dashboard shows a 30-day activity chart, subject breakdown by time spent, mastery analytics per subject (strengths and weaknesses), achievement history, and personalized recommendations for home practice. It gives you a complete picture of your child's learning without hovering.
- How do weekly email digests work?
- Every week, TutorLucid sends a summary email to parents including: sessions completed, XP earned, current streak, new achievements unlocked, top skills with mastery percentages, and weekly goal progress. You can adjust notification settings in your account.
- Can I export my child's progress data?
- Yes, on the Plus and Family plans, you can export a CSV report of your child's progress from the parent dashboard. This includes session history, skill mastery levels, and activity data — useful for parent-teacher conferences.
Account & Billing
Manage your subscription and account.
- Is TutorLucid really free?
- Yes! The Free plan includes 5 tutoring sessions per day, 3 homework scans per day, the daily practice quiz, basic progress tracking, and the achievement system. It's free forever — no credit card required. Upgrade to Plus or Family for unlimited access and advanced features.
- How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
- Visit your account settings and select "Manage Subscription." You can upgrade instantly or schedule a downgrade for the end of your current billing period. Changes to higher plans take effect immediately.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- Go to account settings, select "Manage Subscription," and click "Cancel." Your access continues until the end of your current billing period, and you're never charged again. Your data is preserved in case you decide to resubscribe.
Privacy & Safety
How we protect your family's data.
- Is TutorLucid safe for children?
- Yes. All content is educationally focused and age-appropriate. The AI is specifically trained to be encouraging, patient, and pedagogically sound. We use Clerk for enterprise-grade authentication, and all data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- What data does TutorLucid collect?
- We collect the minimum data needed to provide the service: account information (email, name), student profiles (name, grade), learning data (sessions, skills, progress), and usage analytics. We never sell personal data. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
- Is TutorLucid COPPA compliant?
- Yes. TutorLucid is designed for use by children with parental consent. Parent accounts control student profiles, and we follow COPPA guidelines for collecting and handling children's data. Parents can request data deletion at any time.
- Can I delete my child's data?
- Yes. Contact support@tutorlucid.com with your account email and we'll delete all associated student data within 30 days. You can also delete individual student profiles from your account settings.
Troubleshooting
Fix common issues.
- The tutor isn't responding. What should I do?
- First, check your internet connection. If connected, try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, it may be a temporary service disruption — wait a few minutes and try again. For ongoing issues, contact support@tutorlucid.com.
- My homework photo isn't being scanned correctly.
- For best results: ensure good lighting, hold the camera steady, capture the full worksheet in frame, and make sure text is legible. The scanner works best with printed worksheets; handwritten text may require clearer writing. Try re-uploading with better image quality.
- My streak didn't update.
- Streaks update based on UTC time (midnight UTC). If you completed a session late at night, it may have counted for the previous day. Check the time zone and try completing a session during your local daytime to ensure the streak updates correctly.
