Screen Time After Homework: Boundaries Kids Can Understand
Vague rules invite negotiation. Define what “done” means before anyone powers on a device.
Use a written checklist
Assignments uploaded? Planner signed? Instrument practiced if Tuesday? Checkboxes end ambiguity.
Co-create the reward timing
Kids propose; parents veto only for sleep or safety. Buy-in rises when they helped pick the window.
Cool-down before sleep
Even “earned” screens shouldn’t replace wind-down for younger kids. Books and baths still win near bedtime.
