A Homework Routine That Actually Sticks (K–8)
Kids do better when homework feels predictable—not endless. A routine is less about perfection than about same rough shape every day.
Start with time and place
Pick a consistent start window (for example, after a snack and 20 minutes of downtime). Use the same workspace when possible; brains associate place with “work mode.”
Chunk the session
For younger kids, try 15–20 minute blocks with a short movement break. Older elementary students can often manage 25–30 minutes before a break.
Close the loop
End with a two-minute checklist: materials away, backpack ready, one thing they’re proud of. Small wins train the habit more than marathon cram sessions.
